Joshua Smith

Interior Designer & Lifestyle Expert

Since 2012, Joshua Smith has been on a mission to bring love, beauty and connection to everyday life starting at home. After an 8-year tenure in real-estate, Joshua traded the Texas countryside for the city skyline of New York, pursuing his passion for creating spaces after falling in love with interior design during his first home renovation. After attending the New York School of Interior Design,he began his career under the guidance of Steven Gambrel. Going on to launch his own design firm in 2013, he was named a “rising star” and “one to watch” by House Beautiful magazine just over a year later. Over the years, Joshua has built an impressive portfolio ranging from modern sanctuaries to country estates.

As a certified life coach and meditation teacher, Joshua bridges the essential connections between mind, body, spirit, and space in a way that resonates with the audience of today. His approach harmoniously weaves these elements together, offering practical insights and tangible benefits for a balanced and fulfilled life, enhancing one’s well-being and the spaces they live in. Elevated yet livable, Joshua’s style is inspired by his greatest muse, Mother Nature.

Today, Joshua is an internationally recognized and sought after thought leader at the intersection of interior design, lifestyle, and wellness. His projects and quotes have been featured in Veranda, Homes & Gardens, Traditional Home, The New York Times, Rizzoli’s 2019 book, “On Style”, as well as books “ Seeking Sanctuaries”, and “Dream Cottages” from the editors of The Cottage Journal.

He lives in Southern Vermont with his husband David and their two dogs, where he owns a boutique design studio and showroom featuring antiques he sources at home and abroad along with his favorite designer home good brands.

Wellness Starts AT Home

When seeking to improve the relationship between mind body and spirit, there's a tendency to overlook the role our environments play in enhancing the quality of our lives. When our homes are designed with the intention of love, light and beauty, they not only look better – they feel better. A beautiful interior is not just something we see; it is something we experience. It should engage the senses and nourish the soul.

Emerging evidence within the fields of neuroscience and neuro-aesthetics is showing what people like myself have long intuitively felt – there is link between our living spaces and our well-being. Our home environment is the very foundation to our healing, holding the power to shape who we are and how we show up in the world.

We can make the mundane more meaningful and find more joy in daily living when we consciously choose how we live in our homes. When you live better, you feel better, and when you feel better you do better in the world.

Transforming spaces, Transforming lives

In my journey, I learned that leading a blissful life starts with figuring out what your bliss looks like. It’s also important to recognize that the vision you have for your life today may change, because you're always evolving and growing.

Interior design gives us the opportunity to reflect our growth and our vision for ourselves and our lives. When we create a space we love, it can change us – and the way we connect with one another and ourselves. I’ve witnessed firsthand, for both myself and my clients, that designing a home can mean transforming a life.

home within

When your home is a reflection of who you are and how you want to live, it has the power to enhance your sense of purpose and bring greater joy and meaning to daily living. Our values can be brought to life and recharged in the spaces we inhabit, so that our home serves as a sanctuary of restoration and renewal – mentally, physically and spiritually – while providing us with an experience of beauty, connection and well-being.

aligning spirit
with space

I help my clients elevate their experience of each and every day by cultivating the connections between mind, body, spirit and space. My approach to interior design is informed by years of design experience combined with in-depth study of personal development techniques and my work as a professional certified life coach.

I begin each residential interior design project with a holistic analysis to learn more about you, your space and your vision for how you want to live. From functional to aesthetic to social considerations, this discovery phase allows us to understand and plan for how your home can play a role in supporting your vision and ensures each design decision is made to align your spirit with your space.

Praise

Having worked with Josh and his team twice previously, it was an easy decision to allow him total control and autonomy to design and furnish our new home. After setting a budget (which he hit!) and giving him the date we needed to move in, we got out of the way. Fast forward to just 11 days after our closing date, we walked into our new home feeling amazed, grateful, and rejuvenated. Our living areas were cozy and comfortable but also accommodating for visiting guests. Each bedroom was a relaxing enclave that so wonderfully reflected each family members’ personality. We are absolutely in love with our new home and every beautifully designed detail.

He has impeccable taste - finds and executes on time and on budget and most importantly he is responsive to my taste and opinions and a total JOY to work with.

Josh is a phenomenal decorator, amazing communicator, tremendous collaborator, and a very special person. If this sounds like it's too good to be true, it's not. For the renovation and remodeling of our apartment in New York City, the single best – and most important – decision we made was hiring Josh. From that point, he guided us through every tough decision (creative / logistical / financial) with a calm zen mixed with dynamic enthusiasm. We like to say he turned every difficult design decision into a "multiple-choice question," and his flexibility and understanding when things changed was paramount to keeping everything on track. We've been living in the home Josh designed for us for a year now, and we love it as much as the day we walked in. Hire Josh, and you will be happy in your home – it's as simple as that. (You'll also likely have a new great friend for life.)

Josh designs with his heart! He is one in a million! Thank you for creating the home of a lifetime. It’s hard to express how grateful and appreciative we are for your friendship.

Wellness, it is evident, goes beyond the yoga mat, the spa bathroom and the perfectly curated bedroom. It's equally about choosing colors, shapes and materials that please our eyes and soothe us when we touch them, about creating rooms and finding pieces that are unique to all of us and which tell a story, and about sourcing materials and furniture that do as little harm as possible to the planet, so that our homes can be more than just well-presented showpieces, but truly personalized havens, too.
